NEW DELHI: In a fresh display of Islamophobia and racist rhetoric, Valentina Gomez, a Trump loyalist and Republican Congressional candidate from Texas, sparked outrage after posting a video of herself burning a copy of the Holy Quran with a flamethrower.
In the widely circulated video, Valentina Gomez, who is contesting the 2026 elections from Texas’s 31st Congressional District, declared: “There is only one true God and that is the God of Israel.”
While throwing flames on the holy book, the Texas candidate for the Grand Old Party (GOP) vowed to eliminate Islam not only from Texas, but also from the entire United States of America.
Born in Medellín, Colombia, in 1999, Gomez migrated to the US in 2009 with her family. A former swimmer who represented Colombia internationally, she studied at Central Connecticut State University before earning an MBA in 2020 from the AB Freeman School of Business at the Tulane University.
The extremely hateful campaign ad follows a series of controversial statements and actions by Valentina Gomez, who previously called for public executions of immigrants accused of violent crimes.
In December 2024, she staged a mock shooting of a dummy representing immigrants in New York, demanding that offenders be hanged.
Earlier this year, the cheerleader of Donald Trump’s Make America Great Again (MAGA) slogan drew global headlines for torching LGBTQ-inclusive books with a flamethrower, pledging to ban them if elected.
Her Instagram account was later deleted for repeated violations, but she claimed censorship proved she was “the greatest threat to the establishment.”
Stunts yielded no results for Valentina Gomez
Despite her extremist positions and unshakeable loyalty to Trump and Israel, Valentina Gomez has failed to gain traction in previous contests.
In Missouri’s Republican primaries for secretary of state earlier this year, she placed sixth with just 7.4 per cent of the vote.
Her latest campaign ad, just like the previous ones, has triggered widespread outrage and condemnation online.
Critics have warned that such Islamophobic and dangerous ads not only incite hate but also fuel hatred and violence against Muslims in America.
