“Who is next”? Joe Biden forgets to introduce Indian PM Modi

Biden forgets

WASHINGTON: US President Joe Biden had another forgetful episode as he shared the stage with Quad leaders in Delaware on Sunday morning.

An awkward moment was caught on camera when Biden, the oldest president in US history, snapped at a staffer just before introducing Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

At the event, Biden, PM Modi, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Japan’s Fumio Kishida launched the Cancer Moonshot initiative to reduce the burden of cancer in the Indo-Pacific.

After speaking about the Cancer Moonshot initiative, Biden was supposed to introduce PM Modi on the stage. But the US President fumbled, and looked visibly confused about his next step.

“Who am I introducing next?” Biden asked. “Who’s next?”

The moderator of the event then announced Prime Minister Modi’s name as he came forward for his address.

In recent years, Joe Biden has had incidents of freezing up during public events and stumbling on his words, raising concerns over the 81-year-old President’s mental condition.

In July this year, Joe Biden attended a Nato summit in Washington where he accidentally referred to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy as Russian

President Vladimir Putin.

Biden’s performance during the first presidential debate with Republican Donald Trump this year was also scrutinised after the US President stammered and fumbled on several occasions. The debate raised serious questions over his capacity to run for a re-election, which eventually forced him to withdraw from the race.
