WEB DESK: Zara is planning to introduce a new service in the US by the end of October that will allow customers to sell, repair, or donate their secondhand clothes. The goal is to give clothes a longer life and reduce waste, according to Inditex, Zara’s parent company.

This platform, called ‘Pre-Owned,’ is already available in 16 European countries, including Britain, where it started in November 2022. Inditex aims to have this service running in all major markets by 2025 as part of its plan to cut down on the use of new raw materials.

People can access the service in Zara stores, on its website, and through an app in countries like Spain, France, and Germany. However, Zara has not shared how many people are using the service so far. Inditex’s CEO, Oscar Garcia Maceiras, did mention that Zara’s online platforms get over 22 million visits each day.

Other fast fashion brands, such as H&M, are also involved in reselling clothes. In the US, H&M’s secondhand items are available through a website created with ThredUp.

Zara is also planning to start live shopping shows in the US and other important markets like Spain, Canada, France, Italy, Germany, Britain, Ireland, and The Netherlands in the coming months.

In China, five-hour live shows on Douyin, TikTok’s sister site, have helped Zara’s sales grow since they started in November, according to retail analysis company EDITED.
