Karisma Kapoor’s ex-husband dies of heart attack

MUMBAI: Indian businessman Sunjay Kapur, chairman of Sona Comstar and former husband of Bollywood actor Karisma Kapoor, passed away on Thursday night at the age of 53 while playing polo in the UK.

As per Indian media, Sunjay was playing polo in England when he suffered a fatal heart attack. Business consultant Suhel Seth told ANI that Sunjay may have accidentally swallowed a bee during the match, which possibly triggered the medical emergency.

Kapur was married to entrepreneur and former model Priya Sachdev at the time of his death. Under his leadership, Sona Comstar became a leading player in the electric vehicle sector.

Sunjay had previously married Karisma Kapoor in 2003. Their high-profile marriage ended in a bitter and widely covered divorce in 2016. The two had a turbulent legal battle, during which Karisma accused him of physical abuse and dowry harassment. She also alleged that Sunjay had once tried to “auction her off.” A brief attempt at reconciliation in 2015 failed.

The former couple share two children — Samaira and Kiaan.

Following the news of Sunjay’s passing, Karisma’s sister Kareena Kapoor Khan and brother-in-law Saif Ali Khan were seen visiting her home late at night, visibly distressed. Malaika Arora and her sister Amrita Arora also came to express their condolences.

Sunjay married Priya Sachdev in 2017, and the couple have a son together.
