PCB announces ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup squad

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced 15-member Pakistan squad for the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup.
The women in green will be led by Fatima Sana, who will be captaining the ODI World Cup team for the very first time. The squad showcases a blend of experience and fresh talent, with several players making their World Cup debuts. Iman Fatima, a young and promising player, will feature in her first World Cup, alongside fellow debutants Natalia Parvez, Ramin Shamim, Sadaf Shams, Sadia Iqbal, Shawal Zulfiqar, and Syeda Aroob Shah.

The team has also undergone a few changes from the ICC World Cup qualifier squad, with Gul Feroza and Najiha Alvi dropping out, making room for the new blood.
Before the World Cup begins, Pakistan’s squad will have the chance to sharpen their skills in a three-match ODI series against South Africa. The series will be held in Lahore from September 16 to 22, with the South African team arriving in the city on September 12. This series promises to be a crucial opportunity for the team to build cohesion and fine-tune their strategies before heading to the main event.
The ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup itself will be held from September 30 to November 2, across India and Sri Lanka. Pakistan’s group matches are set to take place in Colombo, Sri Lanka, which will surely test the team’s adaptability to different playing conditions.
The 15-member squad features some of Pakistan’s top talent, including Muniba Ali Siddiqui, Alia Riaz, Diana Baig, Nashra Sandhu, Umaima Sohail, Rameen Shamim, Sidra Amin, and Sidra Nawaz. The experience and expertise of these players will be vital as the team competes on the biggest stage in women’s cricket.

Additionally, the squad has named a set of non-traveling reserves, including Gul Feroza, Najiha Alvi, Tuba Hassan, Umme Hani, and Waheeda Akhtar. These players will be on standby if needed during the World Cup.
