NEW DELHI: Roger Binny has stepped down as the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), according to Indian media reports.
President Roger Binny has resigned after crossing the age limit set in the board’s constitution, Indian media reported.
Binny turned 70 on July 19. Under BCCI rules, no office-bearer can stay in office beyond that age.
Vice-president Rajeev Shukla has taken over as interim president until fresh elections are held.
According to Indian media sources, Binny skipped Thursday’s key meeting on sponsorship deals for the next Asia Cup. Shukla chaired the session in his acting role. The BCCI’s General Council will meet next month to elect a new chief.
The development comes amid uncertainty in Indian cricket administration after the passage of the Sports Governance Act last month.
The act raises the retirement age for sports officials from 70 to 75 years but has yet to be enforced. Until then, BCCI rules remain unchanged.

Legal experts say the new age limit will apply only if the act becomes effective before the BCCI polls. “The law has been passed, but unless it is adopted in the BCCI constitution, the 70-year cap stays,” a sports law analyst told local media.
Roger Binny, part of India’s 1983 World Cup-winning squad, became BCCI chief in October 2022. His tenure oversaw preparations for the 2023 ODI World Cup in India and negotiations on the Asia Cup.
Shukla’s interim presidency also comes amid debates on governance reforms in Indian sports bodies. Critics argue frequent leadership changes disrupt continuity. Supporters claim strict term and age limits promote accountability and new ideas.
The board’s elections are expected to take place in September, Indian media said.
