PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister’s Complaint Cell has busted a gang that was allegedly demanding Rs150 million to secure an advisory slot in the provincial cabinet.
According to officials, the gang’s ringleader was falsely claiming to be affiliated with the Gandapur family.
The KP Chief Minister Secretariat’s digital wing said that on September 9, the complaint cell received an application alleging that a man named Ijaz, backed by a gang, had demanded Rs150 million to appoint their man as an adviser to the chief minister.
The complainant said Ijaz, posing as a member of the Gandapur family, had already taken Rs3 million in advance.
Chief Minister’s Complaint Cell Chairman and provincial lawmaker Samiullah Khan used technical methods to lure gang into his office before calling the Peshawar’s Eastern Police Station House Officer, who arrested all gang members and ordered an investigation against them.
Samiullah Khan said the complaint cell was fully functional and taking concrete steps to address public grievances and provide swift justice.
He said that strict action would continue against elements misusing the names of key government figures.
Earlier, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police launched a crackdown on TikTokers for allegedly producing and uploading indecent videos following public complaints.
Mardan police said that they have registered cases against seven TikTokers and arrested four of them in a major swoop.
Police officials said that the crackdown has been launched against social media influencers involved in creating objectionable content with cases filed against them under cyber crime laws.
According to police, the TikTokers have amassed millions of followers while engaging in this “heinous activity.”
