19 India-backed militants killed in KP: ISPR

ISLAMABAD: Security forces killed 19 Indian-sponsored militants during intelligence-based operations carried out in three districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa — North Waziristan, Mohmand and Bannu — on September 9 and 10.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), 14 militants were killed during an intense exchange of fire with security forces in the Gulonoo area of Mohmand.

In a separate action in Dattakhel, North Waziristan, security forces killed four more militants, while another was eliminated in an encounter in Bannu.

Weapons and ammunition were also recovered during the operations. ISPR said the slain militants had been involved in multiple terrorist activities in the region under Indian patronage.

“Clearance and sanitisation operations are under way in the areas amid reports of further militant presence. The military reiterated its resolve to eliminate India-sponsored terrorism from Pakistan,” the ISPR said.

Meanwhile, President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have commended the successful counter-terrorism operations of security forces in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

In a statement, President Zardari said the courage and professionalism of Pakistan’s brave soldiers continue to protect the nation from the scourge of terrorism. 

He emphasized that such operations demonstrate Pakistan’s unshakeable resolve to confront and defeat Indian-sponsored terrorism.

The president reaffirmed that Pakistan will continue its determined efforts until the last terrorist and their facilitators are brought to justice.

In a statement, Prime Minister Sharif said the war against terrorism will continue until this scourge is completely eradicated from the country.

He said officers and personnel of Pakistan Army are tirelessly engaged day and night to foil the nefarious designs of the Khawarij and the  Fitna-al-Hindustan.

He said the entire nation stands shoulder to shoulder with the Armed Forces with unwavering resolve in the defense of the homeland.
