LAHORE: South Africa Women clinched yet another clash in their ODI series against the Greens in Lahore, winning by 25 runs (DLS method), with Tazmin Brits earning the Player of the Match award for the unbeaten havoc she wreaked with her bat.
The Pakistan side put up a commendable fight. Middle-order batter Sidra Amin impressed with a brilliant 122, dedicating her century to her mother. Omaima Sohail (43) and Natalia Pervaiz (73) added crucial runs from the top and middle order, leaving less than 50 for the rest of the lineup to chase.
However, Pakistan were under pressure following the Proteas’ victory in the opening match. Tazmin Brits was the standout performer in that game as well, scoring 101 while successfully chasing Pakistan’s target of 256.
South Africa batting line
South Africa posted a massive 292-run target against Pakistan in the second ODI of the women’s series here on Friday, after losing only three wickets in their innings.
It was a tough outing for Pakistan’s bowling attack, as they struggled to contain the South African top order. Openers Tazmin Brits and skipper Laura Wolvaardt set a strong foundation, establishing dominant momentum early in the innings. The pair played a commanding partnership, with Brits remaining unbeaten on 171, and Wolvaardt scoring a solid 100, putting the hosts under immense pressure.
Pakistan found a breakthrough through star bowler Diana Baig, who dismissed Wolvaardt and ended the opening stand. She struck again shortly after, removing Nadine de Klerk for a duck, offering some hope to the home side.
Chloe Tryon, batting in the middle order, was run out in the final over, but by then the damage had already been done. The Greens also conceded 17 extras, further boosting South Africa’s total.
South Africa finished on 292 for 3, giving Pakistan a daunting total to chase in this crucial encounter of the series. Proteas had also defeated Pakistan in the opening clash of the ODI series.
First ODI victory for South Africa
Pakistan had posted a massive 256-run target for three wicket in the day-night opening ODI clash that Proteas clinched by just two wickets. Tazmin Brits and middle-order stalwart Marizanne Kapp were outstanding in the chase, scoring 101 and 121 runs respectively, leaving only 34 runs for the rest of the team to complete. Laura Wolvaardt and Sune Luus contributed 4 and 30 runs respectively, bringing the game within just three runs.
