Nashra Sundhu reaches 100 ODI wickets, Fatima Sana shares plan for World Cup

LAHORE: Pakistan women’s cricket team star Nashra Sundhu has achieved a major career milestone by claiming her 100th ODI wicket. She also landed the ‘Player of the Match’ award.

The performance award and the 100th wicket came for Nashra when Pakistan Women cricket team defeated South Africa Women team by six wickets at the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore on Monday night in the final game of the three-match ODI series.

Nashra is the third, after Nida Dar and Sana Mir, and fastest (74 innings) among Pakistan Women’s bowlers, to reach the 100 ODI wickets milestone. She has also registered her best bowling figures in the format eclipsing her previous best of 4-26 against India in ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2017 at Derby in England.

The left-arm spinner shared her joy and gratitude in a heartfelt tweet on X (formerly Twitter).

“Alhamdullillah, truly humbled to reach the milestone of 100 ODI wickets with a player of the match award. I am grateful to my family, teammates, and support staff for their constant support. Looking ahead with gratitude and determination,” she posted.

Nashra’s performance not only highlighted her consistency but also comes at a critical time as the team builds momentum ahead of the upcoming ICC Women’s World Cup.

Head coach Muhammad Wasim lauded Nashra’s achievement and praised the team’s ongoing preparations, saying they are entering the tournament with strong form and clear focus.

Meanwhile, fast bowler Fatima Sana has said that staying composed under pressure is the key to performing well. She said that the team is preparing well for the contest, adding, “we will play World Cup matches like normal matches”. The women in green gear up for high-stakes fixtures, including a key game against Bangladesh before facing arch-rivals India.
