First Supermoon

ISLAMABAD: The first Supermoon of the year was visible across the world, including Pakistan, dazzling skywatchers with its bright and striking appearance.

This supermoon is known as the “Harvest Supermoon”, a name that’s given to the full moon that occurs when the moon’s orbit brings it closest to Earth, according to astronomers.

On this occasion, the moon was approximately 356,355 kilometers from Earth, compared to its usual average distance of about 466,725 kilometers.

During a supermoon, the moon appears around 6 percent larger and 16 percent brighter than usual, creating a spectacular and unique sight in the night sky.

According to astronomers, two more supermoons are expected on Nov-5 and Dec-4 this year, offering skywatchers more chances to witness this stunning celestial event before the year ends.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Sparco) had announced that the first supermoon of the year would be visible across the country on Oct-7, 2025. This phenomenon would make the moon appear both larger and brighter than usual, offering a spectacular celestial display for skywatchers.
