Khyber Pakhtunkhwa CM Sohail Afridi stages sit-in near Adiala Jail

RAWALPINDI: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has staged a sit-in at Dahgal checkpoint on Adiala Road. The protest comes after he was not allowed to meet with his party’s founder and former chairman, Imran Khan, currently incarcerated in Adiala Jail, Rawalpindi.

Prior to staging the sit-in, CM Afridi spoke to media on a range of issues. On the Afghanistan conflict, he said that Afghanistan has a pivotal role, calling it “the gateway to Central Asia” and reiterated Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) stance that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s best trade partnerships are with Afghanistan.

On the judiciary front, Afridi said that it should be the policy of the High Court judges to ensure their orders are respected. “If the High Court judges are helpless because their orders are not being implemented, then they should consider locking the courts”.

Addressing concerns over police resources, Afridi defended his government’s efforts, saying that the federal government’s provision of vehicles was outdated and insufficient. “My police and police martyrs have [will not] accept junk,” he said. He also proudly announced the allocation of Rs7 billion for police development, including the provision of bulletproof vehicles. “Our government has provided many facilities to the police,” Afridi said, while criticising those who remain “insensitive” to these efforts.

This is a developing story…
