HYDERABAD: In the opening match of the World Cup 2023, New Zealand defeated England by 9 wickets. The match, played at the Narendra Modi Stadium, saw New Zealand easily chase down England’s target of 283 runs, thanks to brilliant performances by Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra in the 36th over.
Conway scored an impressive 152 runs, while Rachin Ravindra contributed with 123 runs, delivering a crushing blow to the English team. England’s Sam Curran managed to take one wicket.
Before this, New Zealand’s team won the toss and invited England to bat first. England’s Joe Root scored 77 runs, while captain Jos Buttler made 43 runs before getting out. Johnny Bairstow added 33, Harry Brook scored 25, and Liam Livingstone contributed 20 runs to the total.
New Zealand’s bowlers were exceptional, with Henry taking 3 English wickets, while Mitchell Santner and Glenn Phillips secured 2 wickets each.
Additionally, Rachin Ravindra and Trent Boult also managed to take one wicket each.
