Google is testing an annoying suggestions feature for users

Google faces fine

WEB DESK: Users of the Google app, website, or the Pixel Launcher on mobile devices are likely familiar with the Discover feature, which curates the page’s content based on web activity and user interests known to Google.

Google is now experimenting with extending this Discover feature to the desktop version of its search page. Soon, users might find this feature appearing on their desktops, potentially with more annoying suggestions, regardless of their preference.

People who have encountered the Discover feed on desktops have noted its similarity to the mobile version, offering personalised content.

However, unlike Bing’s counterpart, Google’s Discover feed lacks customization options and cannot be disabled.

Google provides guidelines on its Search Central site, enabling website owners to optimise their content for a chance to be featured on Discover. Pages with high-quality images and timely information stand a better chance of being selected.

Lara Levin, a spokesperson from Google, confirmed the desktop Discover testing but stated that it is currently limited to India.

For those who appreciate algorithm-generated content tailored to personal interests, Google’s recent developments might be good news.

However, individuals wanting control over their homepage content might not share the same enthusiasm.

It’s important to note that these changes are not official yet. Users can continue to enjoy the clean design of the Google homepage for now until further updates are announced.
