ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan has established a fact finding committee for a comprehensive effort to uncover those responsible for the Faizabad sit-in of February 6, 2019.
The Attorney General presented an implementation report to the Supreme Court, outlining the government’s commitment to resolving the Faizabad dharna case. One of the pivotal measures taken by the federal government is the establishment of a fact-finding committee tasked with identifying the individuals responsible for orchestrating and managing the Faizabad sit-in.
This fact-finding committee is comprised of key government officials, including the Additional Home Secretary, Additional Secretary of Defense, and the Director of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). Their mission is to conduct a thorough investigation in line with the prescribed Terms of Reference (TORs) to collect and review all evidence, documents, records, and statements related to the Faizabad sit-in.

The Attorney General’s report emphasises that the fact-finding committee’s primary objective is to determine who issued orders and managed the Faizabad sit-in case. Furthermore, the committee’s responsibilities extend to acting in accordance with the law and regulations governing such matters.
In a recent development, the fact-finding committee convened its inaugural meeting on October 26, 2023, marking the commencement of its crucial work. The committee’s progress is being closely monitored by the public and stakeholders interested in bringing accountability and transparency to the Faizabad dharna case.
The fact-finding committee is expected to conclude its investigation by December 1, 2023, and will subsequently submit its findings and recommendations to the Supreme Court. This inquiry holds the potential to shed light on the responsible parties and handlers behind the Faizabad sit-in, bringing much-anticipated closure to a case that has long captured national attention.
