LAHORE: A notification, purportedly from the Higher Education Department of Punjab, announcing the extension of winter holidays until January 14 for both private and public colleges in Punjab, is currently circulating on social media.

“All colleges (public and private) shall re-open on Monday January 15, 2024 resuming full/normal week for all classes,” read the alleged notification issued by Higher Education Department of Punjab regarding extending in winter vacations in colleges across Punjab.

The fake notification is causing confusion among students, teachers, and parents by falsely suggesting an extension of winter vacations in Punjab colleges.

The most recent notification regarding the extension of winter holidays was issued by the Higher Education Department (HED) on December 30, 2023. As per this notification, all public and private colleges and universities in Punjab are scheduled to reopen on January 10, 2024.

When will educational institutions reopen in various provinces after the winter vacations?

All private and public schools in Lahore and other cities of Punjab are set to resume classes on January 10, unless there is another extension in holidays due to adverse weather or smog conditions.

Winter vacations in educational institutions in Sindh concluded on December 31st, 2023, and classes resumed on January 1st, 2024.

Winter vacations for students in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) were extended further. On December 31st, the education department issued a notification, announcing the closure of all public and private schools until Sunday, January 7, 2024.

Winter vacations were extended in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) on Thursday due to severe cold and fog. Educational institutions will remain closed from January 5 to 15.
