LAHORE: Punjab government has barred Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur from meeting the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder in Adiala jail due to security concerns.

In a letter addressed to the KP government, Punjab cited security threats as the reason behind restricting meetings at Adiala jail.

“CM KP Ali Amin Gundapur’s jail visit should be canceled,” stated the letter, highlighting beefed-up security measures in Attock, Dera Ghazi Khan, and Mianwali jails.

Inspector General Prisons Punjab clarified that all meetings at Adiala jail, including Gandapur’s, are prohibited for two weeks.

The Punjab Home Department, yesterday, imposed a ban on PTI founder’s meetings at Adiala Jail for two weeks, citing security threats.

Media coverage outside Adiala Jail’s gate no-5 has also been prohibited, with media teams directed to stay 2km away.

While Adiala Jail had reserved Tuesdays and Thursdays for meetings with PTI founder, the ban is now in effect for two weeks.

Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari stressed that the restrictions were not aimed at curtailing PTI leaders’ access to Imran Khan, citing a serious security alert.

“This isn’t about taking away Khan’s facilities; it’s about a genuine security threat,” clarified Bukhari, adding that recent arrests of terrorists with jail maps necessitated the restrictions.
