Roti price reduced to Rs15 by Punjab government

LAHORE: The Punjab government announced a further reduction in roti prices to Rs15 following extension negotiations with the Naan Bai Assassination.

According to sources, the decision was taken effective immediately and comes amidst concerns of abundant wheat supply and declining flour prices.

A spokesperson for the Punjab government revealed that the revised roti prices will be prominently displayed at all tandoors and shops.

The Chief Minister (CM) of Punjab had earlier proposed the reduction in roti prices to Rs16 across the province via social media platform X (formerly Twitter). In a post, the CM announced the relieving news.

However, as per reports, the Naan Bai Association initially rejected the proposal. It deemed the new pricing “unfair” and even reportedly threatened to initiate a province-wide shutter-down strike if their demands were not met.

Meanwhile, the Chief Secretary of Punjab Zahid Akhtar Zaman issued instructions to lower the price of roti from Rs16 to Rs 15 in Jhang, Chiniot, and Kasur. The directive was issued during a video-linked meeting with deputy commissioners (DC).

During the meeting, the chief secretary stated that governance needed to improve in the country’s most populated province. He also said that the new prices should be implemented immediately. He told the administrative officers to work “diligently” and prioritise the “welfare of the citizens”.

Roti prices in Karachi

Meanwhile, the local authorities in Karachi took measures to regulate the prices of roti and naan. The local government set official rates for naan and roti – 120 grams of naan priced at Rs17 and 100 grams of roti at Rs12.
