Sindh governor warns against politicising injured camel

KARACHI: Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori has urged against politicising the incident involving a camel’s leg being severed.

Tessori has named the injured camel Kemi, instead of the previously used name, Queen of Sindh. During a visit to the Animal Shelter Home, Tessori was briefed on the camel’s health.

He said that since last week, animals have been subjected to abuse, even though Hadiths and Islam tell us to be kind to animals. “If we can’t do anything [to stop it, we should at least] raise our voice against such unfortunate incidents,” he said adding that the perpetrator of the incident is not from Sindh.

In a related news, Sindh Minister Shazia Marri, who had earlier visited the camel at the shelter, advised the governor against using the situation for a photoshoot, noting the camel’s distress due to its injuries. Marri emphasised that the governor should prioritise the camel’s treatment if he wants to show sympathy.

Marri also mentioned that the camel’s owner has received compensation and no longer has any claim over the animal. She clarified that the injured camel was brought to Karachi for treatment following directives from Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto. Marri criticised political opponents for using the camel incident for political gains.
