RAWALPINDI: Commissioner Rawalpindi has imposed a rain emergency in the city due to the recent spell of monsoon rain, which has started since Sunday.

The decision was taken in a meeting chaired by Commissioner Rawalpindi which was attended by MD WASA and other relevant authorities.

The meeting was informed by MD WASA that the twin cities have received 50 millimeters of rain. The situation of Nullah Lai is being monitored closely.

He also said that WASA is draining water from low-lying areas. The level of water at Gawalmandi Bridge has reached four feet.

Commissioner Rawalpindi imposing rain emergency in Rawalpindi directed that all relevant departments be placed on high alert and that the situation at Nullah Leah should be monitored closely.

NDMA ISSUES ADVISORY

Urban flooding is expected in Northern & Northeastern parts of Punjab including Lahore, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujranwala, Sargodha, Gujrat, Rawalpindi/Islamabad, and surrounding areas while southern parts of Sindh including Hyderabad, Jamshoro, Sanghar, Benazirabad and Karachi also face urban flooding during forecasted period.

NDMA has issued instructions to all relevant departments to take necessary precautions to mitigate the possible effects of flooding and extreme weather.

PDMA ISSUES AN ALERT

On the other hand, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) issued an alert for all concerned departments in Punjab in order to deal with any situation, arising out of heavy rains especially in north-eastern districts of the province.
