ISLAMABAD: Tehreek-e-Insaf-Nazriati leader Akhtar Iqbal Dar commended the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) for its efforts in representing the interests of Pakistan’s 240 million populace on Monday.

Dar’s remarks came in light of ongoing concerns regarding the independent power producers (IPPs) agreements.

Tehreek-e-Insaf-Nazriati recently filed a writ petition with the Supreme Court, challenging the ideological framework of IPPs agreements. Dar stated the matter was “urgent” and called on the Chief Justice to expedite the hearing of their petition.

He said that over 40 per cent of the national budget is allocated to servicing debts, a situation he attributes to the unfavourable IPP agreements.

Dar criticised the IPPs agreements, labeling them as detrimental to Pakistan’s development and the prosperity of its people. He argued that these agreements undermine economic progress and place a heavy burden on the nation’s financial resources.
