ISLAMABAD: Ahead of Independence Day, city administration in the Islamabad Capital Territory has banned the sale, purchase and use of honking toy horns in the federal capital.
According to a notification issued by Islamabad Additional District Magistrate Usman Ashraf the ban comes into immediate effect and will remain imposed for ten days.
It further stated that the ban has been imposed under Section 144 as local traders sell celebratory items including flags, badges and other goods on roadside stalls ahead of Independence Day.
What are other expected public holidays this month besides Aug 14, Independence Day?
Meantime, Islamabad’s Deputy Commissioner Irfan Nawaz also called on the citizens to avoid using horns and asked stall-owners to stop selling them
He also directed all assistant commissioners to take all such toys being sold on stalls into their custody as the use of honking toy horns is banned for Independence Day.
“Using or selling a toy horn it can land you in legal trouble,” the official said while requesting the citizens to comply with the directives.
The authorities have banned the production, sale and use of festive instrument honking toy horns, which is also referred to as baja in common parlance, because of its loud noise and deleterious effects on human health
From being a subject of memes to common pranks through WhatsApp, the annoying horn has always received blatant hatred. Recently, the government has imposed a ban under Section 190 (C) of the criminal procedure code on manufacture, sale and use of the instrument for causing public nuisance.
The country is all set to mark its 77th Independence Day on Wednesday with traditional zeal and fervour.
