Pakistan nuclear institute gains IAEA recognition

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Institute of Nuclear Science and Technology (PINSTECH) was designated a “Collaborative Centre” by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
This will help elevate the national nuclear institute‘s status and role in advancing nuclear science and technology.

A spokesperson from the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) noted that the PINSTECH served as the principal research and development hub for the commission.
Founded in 1965 and insinuated in Nilore, near Islamabad, PINSTECH boasts state-of-the-art facilities dedicated to a wide array of research areas.

The nuclear institute focuses research on nuclear physics, radiation safety and the medical applications of the nuclear technology.
PINSTECH has also been instrumental in cultivating a new generation of scientists and engineers, conducting research that underpins Pakistan’s nuclear energy initiatives in medical field, agriculture and industrial sectors.

The PINSTECH is governed by PAEC, established itself in 1956. It is tasked with overseeing and advancing nuclear energy in Pakistan.
The commission’s mission is to leverage nuclear technology for peaceful applications, including energy production, medical advancement and agricultural improvements.

PAEC has also made progress in developing nuclear power facilities, aiming to improve the contribution of nuclear energy to the country’s overall energy portfolio.
