Hyundai expected to unveil the new Elantra hybrid at PAPS in Lahore

LAHORE: Hyundai Pakistan is set to unveil the latest generation of the Elantra tomorrow (October 25) at the Pakistan Auto Show (PAPS) in Lahore.

This development means Pakistanis can soon expect the launch of the new Hyundai Elantra, with several reports suggesting that the Korean auto giant will unveil the hybrid version of the Elantra sedan at the event.

Speculation intensified after Hyundai Pakistan posted a teaser-like image of 2024 Elantra on its official Facebook page. While the uploaded picture did not fully reveal the 7th generation Hyundai Elantra, the headlights, the car’s back lights, and overall shape made it obvious that it is the new Elantra.

Hyundai launched the 6th generation Elantra in March 2021 at a starting price of Rs4 million. Despite its modern and not-so-basic design and features, it struggled to capture a decent market chunk after facing tough competition from rivals like Toyota Corolla and Honda Civic, which were already popular among sedan buyers.

Hyundai Nishat Motors is expected to offer two variants of the Elantra in the Pakistani car market: a base variant and a top-line variant with added features. What’s more intriguing is that both variants are expected to be hybrid models, powered by 1.6-litre engines.

Once the 7th generation Hyundai Elantra is officially launched in local market, it will be interesting to see how the auto community welcomes the new entrant. The success of the upcoming Elantra will also depend on the price the automaker sets.

Currently, the 6th generation of Hyundai Elantra, currently available for booking in Pakistan, is priced at nearly Rs7.2 million for the top GLS variant, while the lower trim, Elantra GL, costs Rs6.4 million.

Considering high prices for 6th generation models, even without hybrid engine, it is expected that the 7th generation Elantra may be priced as high as Rs9 million.
