Bangladesh collapse in first innings against South Africa

Bangladesh

CHATTOGRAM: Bangladesh began to collapse in their first innings of the second test against South Africa, losing four wickets in the first 9 overs.

South Africa’s Kagiso Rabada began to dismantle Bangladesh from the very first over, dismissing Shadman Islam after he missed the ball on its way to wicket-keeper Kyle Verreynne. Ultra-Edge showed that Islam’s bat did in fact make contact with the ball, and the Bangladeshi opener was sent off on a duck on the sixth ball he faced.

Rabada would pick up another wicket in the fifth over in similar fashion. His delivery would find the edge of Zakir Hasan’s bat before the ball made its way into Verreynne’s gloves. Hasan was dismissed after only scoring two runs off eight deliveries.

Dane Paterson would join the fray in the next over, dismissing Mahmudul Hasan Joy, as an attempt to drive the ball by the Bangladeshi batter went awry. To the dismay of Joy, the ball found the edge before South Africa skipper Aiden Markram took the catch at second slip. Joy managed to make 10 runs off the 21 deliveries he faced, the highest score for Bangladesh thus far.

Things got worse for Bangladesh in the next over. This time it was Keshav Maharaj who took the wicket, dismissing Hasan Mahmud. The Bangladeshi bowler was sent down to the pitch as a nightwatcher and was sent right back up to the pavilion moments later. Mahmud scored three runs before being dismissed on the seventh ball he faced, as the delivery splayed the middle and off stumps.

Day two of the second test came to an end with Bangladesh losing four wickets in quick succession. They trail by 537 runs.
