Smog control: crackdown intensified on smoke emitting vehicles

LAHORE: Department of Transport and Mass Transit Punjab has issued another warning for the owners and drivers of smoke emitting vehicles. The action comes as part of the efforts to control smog in the region.
According to the directives of the Punjab Government and the Lahore High Court (LHC), the crackdown against smoke emitting vehicles is in-progress, DC Lahore said.
Transport and Mass Transit Secretary Ahmed Javed Qazi said that owners and drivers of smoke emitting vehicles have been barred from bringing such vehicles on roads. Such buses, trucks and rickshaws will be stopped from traveling in Lahore, he added.
He also issued important instructions to all Deputy Commissioners of Punjab, stating that smoke-emitting vehicles should not be allowed to leave bus stands or truck stands in the respective districts.
He informed that instructions have been issued to the authorities concerned to keep such vehicles in custody at the stands until they are repaired.
The secretary also directed to all deputy commissioners and Regional Transport Authorities (RTA) chairmen to ensure compliance of government issued directives.
