Dental Surgery program duration extended in Punjab

LAHORE: The duration of Bachelors of Dental Surgery (BDS) degree program in Punjab has been extended from four to five years.

In the 49th meeting of Board of Studies Dentistry of University of Health Sciences Lahore, it was decided that the duration of BDS will be extended to five years, equivalent to the duration of Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS).

However, the public and private dental colleges will not charge the fifth year fee.

In the meeting of the Board of Studies in Dentistry, it was also approved to introduce a new syllabus for dental colleges from session 2024-25.

On this occasion, University of Health Sciences (UHS) Vice Chancellor Professor Ahsan Waheed Rathore said that special importance has been given to community dentistry and medical skills in the new curriculum.

Life-saving skills have been added in the new curriculum. Professor Rathore said that subject specialists and medical education experts of all dental colleges will be trained in the new curriculum.
