Pakistan Railways records Rs33 billion in revenue over five months

Pakistan Railways Jobs

LAHORE: Pakistan Railways (PR) has hit a new high bringing in a record Rs33 billion over the last five months through its passenger and freight services.

This is a step up from Rs29 billion PR made during the same time last year. CEO Aamer Ali Baloch shared the news on Friday, highlighting the railways’ strong performance.

According to Business Recorder, Baloch also shared update on ML-1 project which is one of Pakistan Railways’ major infrastructure plans. He mentioned that work on the ground is expected to begin by March 2025.

Earlier, for the previous fiscal year, Pakistan Railways earned an impressive Rs88 billion, a 40 per cent jump compared to the Rs63 billion it brought in the previous year. This surge in revenue was largely due to better services for both passengers and freight, which brought in more customers without having to raise fares significantly.

A major boost came from freight operations which saw revenue soar to Rs28 billion from Rs18 billion. Pakistan Railways had initially set target of Rs73 billion for the fiscal year but surpassed expectations by reaching Rs88 billion.

Of this, Rs47 billion came from ticket sales, Rs28 billion from freight and Rs13 billion from leasing railway land and other streams.
