RAWALPINDI: The case of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman’s nephew Hassan Niazi has been transferred to a military court.

Niazi was relocated from Quetta to Rawalpindi for his military trial, according to police sources.

Earlier, a Lahore High Court hearing focused on recovering Hassan Niazi, with the court summoning the Inspector General, Chief Capital City Police Officer (CCPO), and SHO of the Sarwar Road Police Station for a response by August 18.

In the ongoing legal proceedings, Hassan Niazi’s father, Hafeezullah Niazi, filed a petition urging the court to secure the release of his son and present him in court.

Hassan was sought by the Lahore police from Quetta police on charges related to the May 9 Jinnah House attack.

He was arrested a few days back from Abbottabad while reportedly hiding at a friend’s house. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police had handed him over to Quetta police.

He, along with 200 other accused persons had been absconding the police, which began the process of declaring him a proclaimed offender.

The May 9 incidents were a series of violent protests that erupted across Pakistan after the PTI chief was arrested from the premises of the Islamabad High Court.

The PTI supporters took to the streets and clashed with the police and security forces. They also attacked and vandalised several government and military installations, including Jinnah House, the residence of Lahore’s Corps Commander.
