Pakistan faces intensifying heat, starting today

WEB DESK: On Thursday, the weather is likely to be hot and dry in most parts of the country, while it is likely to be intensely hot in the plains during the day, Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said.
Going region by region, the weather is likely to be hot and dry in Islamabad and its surroundings. Similarly, the weather will likely stay very hot and dry in most districts of Punjab province. However, strong winds are expected in the southern districts.
Situation is expected to be similar in most districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with hot and dry conditions to prevail across the province. PMD says that it is likely to be very hot in the southern and central districts during the day.
In Sindh, on Thursday, the weather will be very hot and dry in most districts of the province.
Extreme heat and dry conditions are also predicted for most districts of Balochistan province, while it is likely to be very hot in the southern districts. Strong winds are expected during this time as well.
Gilgit-Baltistan will be dry during the day, but the weather may get partly cloudy in the evening and night. Kashmir is expected to get the same weather with dry daytime and partly cloudy in the evening and night.
Yesterday, the PMD also issued a heatwave warning for May 15-20 (Thursday to Tuesday) with daytime temperature expected to be 04 to 06 degrees Celsius above normal in the southern parts of the country and 05 to 07 degrees Celsius above normal in the northern parts of the country.
