ADB plans 23 projects to support Pakistan’s economic, climate goals

WEB DESK: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is working on projects to strengthen its partnership with Pakistan. This year, it plans seven projects, with 16 more expected next year.
ADB’s Country Director, Emma Fan, shared this in a meeting with Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb.
Senator Aurangzeb welcomed Fan to her new position and expressed hope that the strong partnership between Pakistan and ADB would keep growing. He noted that ADB is important in supporting Pakistan’s development and gave updates on the country’s economy and key reforms in major sectors.
Emma Fan commended Pakistan’s reform efforts and highlighted ADB’s new country partnership strategy, which focuses on critical areas such as climate change, economic growth, and overall prosperity.
She provided an overview of the ADB’s ongoing and future projects, including the bank’s support for economic reforms, poverty reduction, and climate change initiatives. The ADB is also providing policy-based funding and budgetary assistance to Pakistan.
Fan outlined key projects in various sectors, such as financial aid for poverty alleviation, reforms in SOEs and small and medium enterprises (SMEs), smart meter installation in power distribution, the development of an early flood warning system and the Federal Board of Revenue’s digitalisation efforts.
