ISLAMABAD: Due to the recently imposed New Energy Vehicles (NEV) Adoption Levy, Master Changan Motor Limited has joined the growing list of automakers increasing car prices in Pakistan, while Sazgar Engineering, the assembler of Haval, has taken an unexpected turn, slashing prices to ease the burden on its consumers.
The levy, ranging from one per cent to three per cent based on engine size, applies to all locally assembled vehicles. Most auto companies, including Suzuki, Kia, and Changan, have passed this cost on to buyers.
CHANGAN INCREASES COST BY UP TO RS200,000
For the Oshan X7, the price of the Comfort (7 seats) variant has risen from Rs8,299,000 to Rs8,474,000, while the FS (5 seats) and FS (7 seats) variants are now priced at Rs9,149,000 and Rs9,299,000, respectively, both reflecting a Rs200,000 increase.
For the Alsvin, the MT Comfort variant now costs Rs 4,189,000, up from Rs 4,099,000. The Lumiere and Lumiere Black Edition have both seen Rs100,000 hikes, with new prices set at Rs 4,899,000 and Rs 4,999,000.
The Karvaan Power Plus 1.2 is now priced at Rs 3,249,000, up from Rs 3,199,000, and the Sherpa Power 1.2 has increased from Rs 2,304,000 to Rs 2,349,000.
SUZUKI AND KIA ALSO RAISE PRICES
Suzuki has raised prices for its popular models Alto, Cultus, and Swift, with increases ranging from Rs47,000 to Rs100,000. The Alto VXR now costs Rs 2,994,861, up by Rs 167,861, while the Alto VXR AGS is priced at Rs 3,166,480, after a Rs 177,480 increase.
Kia followed suit, increasing ex-factory prices by Rs 95,000 to Rs 700,000, affecting models like the Sportage and Picanto.
HAVAL MOVES AGAINST THE TIDE
In a rare move, Sazgar Engineering, the local assembler of Haval vehicles, announced a reduction in prices instead of raising them. The company declared it would absorb the NEV levy costs rather than shifting the burden to customers.
In an official statement, Sazgar said: “As a responsible and customer-focused organisation, Sazgar has always taken proactive steps to safeguard the interests of our valued Haval family.”
The company added that lowering prices was part of its commitment to maintain market stability and consumer trust, despite mounting cost pressures.
