IESCO counters losses amidst rising theft of transformers, cables

ISLAMABAD: In a recent development, the Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) has disclosed an ongoing challenge posed by a group of criminals operating in distinct areas across Islamabad and Rawalpindi. Their illicit activities primarily involve the theft of electricity transformers, underground cables, and various essential equipment, Dawn News reported on Wednesday.

According to an official statement released by the distribution company, the persistent thefts have resulted in substantial financial losses for IESCO, subsequently leading to prolonged power outages for electricity consumers.

The statement further revealed that IESCO’s management, in collaboration with concerned SDOs (Sub-Divisional Officers), has initiated legal actions against the perpetrators. Additionally, multiple teams from IESCO are actively engaged in the field, working diligently to apprehend the thieves and subsequently deliver them to the appropriate law enforcement agencies.

Expressing the urgency of the situation, the statement conveyed, “IESCO’s management urges customers to actively contribute to our collective moral and national responsibility. If any unauthorised or suspicious individuals are observed in proximity to electrical installations, we encourage immediate reporting to the SDO offices or the IESCO helpline.”
