Gas theft crackdown: SNGPL imposes Rs3.41 million fine, files FIRs

ISLAMABAD: Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) continues its robust efforts to curb gas theft across Punjab, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, and Islamabad, reporting the disconnection of 238 connections and levying fines totaling Rs3.41 million on offenders.

In Lahore, the regional team took action by disconnecting 26 connections due to unauthorised gas usage and nine connections for the use of compressors, imposing a fine of Rs0.26 million for these gas theft instances.

Meanwhile, in Rawalpindi, four connections were severed for illegal gas usage, with an additional one disconnected for compressor use. In Islamabad, the team disconnected eight connections linked to unauthorised gas use.

Moving to Multan, the team took action against three connections for illegal gas use and disconnected ten connections attributed to the use of compressors.

In Peshawar and Karak, SNGPL disconnected 80 connections directly using gas, imposing fines amounting to Rs2.4 million. Notably, two FIRs were also filed against the gas pilferers.

In Sahiwal, one connection faced disconnection due to illegal gas usage. In Sialkot, the team disconnected two connections related to unauthorised gas use, with fines totaling Rs0.09 million for gas theft cases.

In Sheikhupura, 35 connections were severed for illegal gas use, while two were disconnected for compressor use, resulting in fines of Rs0.03 million against gas theft cases.

Further operations in Sargodha saw the disconnection of 34 connections for illegal gas use and 20 connections for compressor use, accompanied by fines of Rs0.3 million.

In Gujranwala, two connections were disconnected for unauthorised gas usage, with fines amounting to Rs0.33 million against gas pilferers. Lastly, in Gujrat, one connection faced disconnection due to illegal gas usage.
