India ‘refuses’ to receive Women’s Asia Cup trophy from Naqvi

India’s women’s cricket team “refused” to receive the Women’s Asia Cup trophy from Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President Mohsin Naqvi after defeating Sri Lanka in the final in Dubai on Sunday.

According to an ACC source, the trophy was made available to the Indian team, but the players declined to receive it from Naqvi.

The incident comes amid continued tensions between India and Pakistan and is the second such incident involving an Indian cricket team within a year.

Cricket experts told HUM News that the development once again risked overshadowing cricket with politics, describing the reported decision as contrary to the spirit of sportsmanship.

“The trophy is available to the winning Indian team,” the experts said, adding that the trophy previously won by India was also available and was awaiting collection.

They further said Naqvi had not changed his position and continued to maintain his previous stance.

India defeated Sri Lanka by 72 runs in the final to win the ACC Women’s Asia Cup 2026.
