IMF delegation meets President Zardari, discusses Pakistan’s economic progress

ISLAMABAD: A high-level delegation from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), led by Mission Chief Jihad Azour, called on President Asif Ali Zardari at Aiwan-e-Sadr on Tuesday to discuss Pakistan’s economic situation and the ongoing IMF program.

The meeting was attended by Federal Minister for Finance Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, Senator Saleem Mandviwala, and other senior officials. Both sides reviewed the country’s economic performance and the impact of the IMF-supported stabilisation program.

President Zardari acknowledged the IMF’s role in strengthening Pakistan’s economy, stating that the program has helped bring macroeconomic stability and will further promote sustainable growth. He appreciated the Fund’s continued engagement with Pakistan and thanked the global lender for its support during challenging economic times.

The IMF delegation expressed satisfaction with Pakistan’s progress on economic reforms and affirmed that the program remains on track. The president also commended the finance ministry and its team for their efforts in implementing critical reforms aimed at economic recovery.

The discussions underscored the government’s commitment to maintaining fiscal discipline while pursuing policies to stabilise the economy and ensure long-term growth.
