Public transport fares reduction

LAHORE: Chief Minister (CM) Maryam Nawaz has issued a directive to ensure a reduction in transport fares following the recent decrease in petroleum prices. She said that the benefits of the reduced fuel prices must be directly passed on to the public.

Chairing a high-level meeting to review matters related to the transport department, CM Maryam highlighted the impact of transport fares on the prices of essential commodities, including food items. She stated that lowering transport fares would provide significant relief to the public.

During the meeting, Chief Minister Nawaz called for a comprehensive five-year transport plan for Lahore, covering the entire city. She also instructed the relevant authorities to consult top international experts for the proposed purple and blue Line train projects in Lahore.

The meeting included a detailed briefing on the introduction of 630 eco-friendly buses across the province. Secretary Transport Ahmed Javed Qazi presented an update on the students’ bike project, revealing that 200 eco-friendly diesel hybrid buses would be introduced in Lahore, with 100 electric buses to be piloted.
