PSX opens higher, gains over 1,000 points in early trade 


PSX opens strong

KARACHI: The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) opened on a strong note on Thursday, with the benchmark KSE-100 index rebounding sharply following a steep decline in the previous session. By around 10:05 AM, the index had surged 1,027.99 points, or 0.78 per cent, to reach 133,604.97. 

Earlier, at approximately 10:00 AM, the index was recorded at 133,423.18, up 846.20 points or 0.64 per cent from the previous close of 132,576.98. During this period, the intraday high stood at 133,423.18, while the low touched 132,706.02. The market recorded a trading volume of 18.96 million shares, with a total value of Rs1.34 billion. 

As the session progressed, the upward momentum continued, with the index climbing to a high of 133,620.34, while the low remained at 132,706.02. By 10:04 AM, trading volume had increased to nearly 26.94 million shares. 

The KSE-100 index has now gained 67.34 per cent over the past year and 16.05 per cent since the beginning of 2025. The day’s trading range so far stood between 132,706.02 and 133,620.34, while the 52-week range remained between 76,943.24 and 134,200.27. 

In Wednesday’s session, the benchmark index had closed at 132,576.98 after losing 826.21 points, or 0.62 per cent. The index moved within a wide range of 1,240.20 points, touching an intraday high of 133,566.37 and a low of 132,326.17. The total volume for the day stood at 161.03 million shares. 

In Thursday’s early trade, notable gainers included PINL, which rose to Rs8.30 after gaining Rs1.00 or 13.70 per cent. KOIL was trading at Rs14.80, up Rs1.35 or 10.04 per cent, while HICL climbed Rs1.05 to reach Rs11.52, marking a 10.03 per cent gain. NSRM stood at Rs146.03 with an increase of Rs13.28 or 10 per cent, and ARPAK was priced at Rs68.51 after rising Rs6.23. Other stocks registering 10 per cent gains included FZCM at Rs354.04, MEHT at Rs352.73, AHTM at Rs59.40, HAFL at Rs361.89, and KPUS at Rs161.70. 

On the downside, FCIBL declined to Rs16.13, shedding Rs1.79 or 9.99 per cent. DINT was down by Rs10.60 to Rs104.00, a fall of 9.25 per cent, while IDRT dropped Rs1.72 to Rs20.11, a loss of 7.88 per cent. HWQS slipped to Rs21.00 after losing Rs1.53, and GCWL stood at Rs12.20 following a decline of Rs0.71 or 5.50 per cent. UVIC, MQTM, SLYT, SNAI, and HRPL also posted losses between 4.39 and 5.31 per cent. 

The early rally reflected a positive shift in investor sentiment, with broad-based buying helping the PSX recover some of the ground lost in the previous session.
