PSX loses early gains but remains in positive territory

KARACHI: Bulls returned to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Wednesday, following a decline in the previous session, as the benchmark KSE-100 Index crossed the 137,000 level during the early minutes of trade.

At around 10am, the index was seen hovering at 137,211.31, up by 1,271.44 points or 0.94 per cent. Buying interest was primarily observed in the energy sector, particularly in oil and gas exploration companies, oil marketing companies (OMCs), refineries and power generation stocks. Key index-heavy names such as Attock Refinery Limited (ARL), Mari Petroleum (MARI), Hub Power (HUBC), Pakistan Oilfields (POL), Sui Northern Gas (SNGPL), Sui Southern Gas (SSGC) and WAPDA Foundation Investment (WAFI) were trading in the green.

However, by around 10:45am, some of the gains pared, though the index remained positive. At that point, the KSE-100 was recorded at 136,377.37, showing an increase of 437.50 points or 0.32 per cent from the previous close.

The benchmark index reached an intraday high of 137,232.10, while the lowest level touched was 135,542.88. Total traded volume stood at over 75.5 million shares, with the market value recorded at Rs7.54 billion. The index had closed the previous day at 135,939.87 after losing 562.66 points or 0.41 per cent.

Over the past year, the KSE-100 has posted a remarkable gain of 66.64 per cent. So far in 2025, the year-to-date (YTD) increase stands at 18.46 per cent. The 52-week range for the index spans from a low of 76,943.24 to a high of 137,747.61.

Top gainers

Leading the list of top gainers was TRSM, which surged by Rs1.00 or 12.95 per cent to Rs8.72 with a volume of 616,167 shares. FTMM followed with a rise of Rs1.86 or 10.03 per cent to Rs20.41, and HWQS, not currently traded (NC), climbed by Rs2.37 or 10.02 per cent to Rs26.03. Other notable gainers included SMCPL, ATIL, ZAHID, LEUL, THCCL, FRCL and PIAHCLB, each increasing by around 10 per cent. Among them, PIAHCLB posted the highest price increase in absolute terms, rising by Rs3,164.51 to Rs34,809.56.

Top decliners

On the losing side, NSRM fell the most, dropping Rs12.59 or 8.77 per cent to Rs131.01. AKGL was down by Rs4.99 or 8.75 per cent to Rs52.01, followed by PTC, which shed Rs2.04 or 8.61 per cent to close at Rs21.65. Other major decliners included FZCM, SANSM, TICL, AGIC, ELSM, SHDT and FIBLM, with losses ranging between 6 and 8 per cent.

Previous session recap

On Tuesday, the KSE-100 Index had closed at 135,939.87, down by 562.66 points or 0.41 per cent. The index traded within a wide intraday range of 1,921.20 points, touching a high of 137,747.60 and a low of 135,826.40. The total volume for the day stood at 307.74 million shares.
