Pakistani rupee gains 13 paisa against US dollar in early trade

KARACHI: The Pakistani rupee (PKR), on the second trading day of the week, recorded slight appreciation against the US dollar (USD) as it rose 0.05 per cent during the initial trading hours on Tuesday.

Before 11 AM, the home unit was recorded at Rs277.85 after it witnessed a gain of 13 paisa against the American currency.

On the previous trading day, the PKR rose 0.01 per cent or 3.42 paisa or against the USD and settled the day at Rs277.98 per USD, compared to last week’s closing of Rs278.01 on Friday.

Since the start of 2024, the local currency has appreciated by Rs3.89 or 1.40 per cent versus the dollar. During the current fiscal year 2025, the PKR has strengthened by 0.13 per cent or 36.62 paisa against the USD.

Here’s how the PKR performed against major foreign currencies on the last trading day (Monday):

Saudi Riyal (SAR): PKR gained 0.82 paisa or 0.01 per cent, closing at Rs74.00.

UAE Dirham (AED): The local currency rose by 0.73 paisa or 0.01 per cent, ending at Rs75.68.

Euro (EUR): PKR strengthened by 53.65 paisa or 0.18 per cent, closing at Rs293.67 compared to Rs294.20 previously.

Swiss Franc (CHF): PKR increased by 14.69 paisa or 0.05 per cent, closing at Rs316.19.

Japanese Yen (JPY): PKR edged up by 0.06 paisa or 0.03 per cent, closing at Rs1.8489, slightly higher than Rs1.8495 a day earlier.

British Pound (GBP): The local currency gained 1.59 paisa, closing at Rs354.82, up from Rs354.84.

Chinese Yuan (CNY): PKR appreciated by 7.55 paisa or 0.20 per cent, closing at Rs38.21 compared to Rs38.29.

December 2: The PKR increased by 0.03 per cent, or 7.65 paisa, against the USD to end the day at Rs277.97 per USD, compared to the last closing of Rs278.05.

December 3: The PKR increased by 10.48 paisa, or 0.04 per cent, against the USD to settle the trade at Rs277.87 per USD, compared to the last closing of Rs277.97.

December 4: The PKR fell by 5.41 paisa, or 0.02 per cent, against the USD, settling the trade at Rs277.92 per USD, compared to the last closing of Rs277.87.

December 5: The PKR fell by 0.01 per cent or 2.17 paisa against the USD to close the day at Rs277.94 per USD, compared to the last closing of Rs277.92.

December 6: PKR dropped by 0.02 per cent or 6.47 paisa against the USD to settle the day at Rs278.01 per USD, compared to the last closing of Rs277.94.

December 9: PKR rose by 0.01 per cent or 3.42 paisa or against the USD to settle the trade at Rs277.98 per USD, compared to the last closing of Rs278.01.
