ISLAMABAD: Yamaha’s popular bike, the YBR125G Matt, has hit a new high in Pakistan. It now costs Rs493,500, a price that puts it above many old used cars available in the market, such as the Suzuki Mehran.
This steep jump raises fresh concerns about how motorcycles are becoming unaffordable for the average Pakistani.
The new prices took effect from July 1, 2025. Yamaha Motor Pakistan increased prices across its entire lineup. The move follows similar steps by Atlas Honda and Pak Suzuki. The changes come after the federal government’s 2025–26 budget added new taxes and a special NEV (New Energy Vehicle) levy.
Here’s how Yamaha’s latest price list looks:
YB125Z (Red/Black) now costs Rs429,000. This includes Rs65,441 in sales tax and Rs4,057 under the NEV levy.
YB125Z DX (Red/Black/Gray) is priced at Rs459,500.
YBR125 (Red/Gray/Black) now sells for Rs471,500.
YBR125G (Black) costs Rs490,500.
And the most expensive of all, YBR125G Matt, is now Rs493,500.
This marks one of the highest retail prices for a non-electric 125cc motorcycle in the country.

The NEV levy, which took effect on July 1, targets all internal combustion engine vehicles, including bikes. It does not apply to electric or hybrid vehicles, export-only models, or vehicles used by diplomats or international bodies. The aim is to push buyers towards cleaner vehicles, but in the short term, it’s making petrol bikes more expensive.
Other manufacturers have followed suit. D.S. Motors, which makes Unique bikes, raised prices of its UD-70cc models by Rs3,000. The company blamed rising import duties, production costs, and overall economic pressure.
Pak Suzuki has also raised bike prices. And earlier, Atlas Honda, which holds the biggest share in Pakistan’s motorcycle market, increased prices by Rs2,000 to Rs6,000 per unit.
Even the most basic bike in Pakistan, the Honda CD70, now costs Rs160,000. Once seen as a low-cost way to get around, bikes are fast slipping out of reach for many. The rise in taxes and prices could push more people away from the two-wheeler market.
With the YBR125G Matt now approaching the half-a-million-rupee mark, buyers may start looking at small used cars instead. For a country where motorcycles have long been the go-to for cheap transport, that’s a worrying shift.
