WEB DESK: Guess it’s celebrations all around for actor Mawra Hocane, as she is basking in glory for Sanam Teri Kasam now raking in profits after being rereleased earlier this month. So much so that after Anil Kapoor, Vidya Balan and John Abraham, even the legendary Amitabh Bachchan took to his Instagram to send his good wishes
Mawra, however, who is quite occupied with her post-wedding shenanigans took some while to share the post to her own Instagram alongside the updates from her Mayoun. Mawra did say that her spouse, Ameer Gillani, is definitely looking as a lucky charm for her, because how often does a rerelease of a film which bombed badly in the box office survive let alone thrive after hitting the screens again?
Directed by Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru, Mawra and Harshvardhan Rane starrer Sanam Teri Kasam is currently on its way to possibly become India’s biggest grossing rerelease, with merely INR five crore more to go. If it is able to reach to the top, it will dethrone Tumbad, as per Sacnilk report quoted by Good Returns. The nine-year old love story has made approximately INR27.60 crore in eight days, while Tumbad stands at INR32 crores net.
‘Jafa’ role reflects real-life marital abuse, says Mawra Hocane
However, unlike Vidya Balan, stars like John Abraham and Arjun Rampal lauded only Harshvardhan Rane.
On February 5, Mawra surprised her fans by announcing through her social media, that she and Ameer Gilani got married. Both celebrities have worked together in various dramas, featuring together in the 2023 drama “Neem as well as the 2020 drama Sabaat.
Mawra recently played a leading role in drama Jafa which highlighted the various layers of domestic violence. In an interview with “Something Haute”, Mawra had shared that her performance resonated deeply with many of her friends and colleagues from the entertainment industry.
“After watching “Jafa”, several of my self-sufficient friends reflected on their relationships and told me my role accurately portrayed how some husbands behave with their wives,” she said.
The actress explained that her character represented a highly educated, independent woman working as a doctor, who, despite her autonomy, becomes a victim of her husband’s abuse. “He takes her for granted, thinking she is the only person he can dominate,” Mawra said, emphasising the deliberate nature of such behaviour.
