It appears that royalty has taken a detour to meet rap as Dubai’s glamorous Princess Sheikha Mahra is making global headlines after reports emerged that she is engaged to Moroccan-American rapper French Montana. The news, first revealed by TMZ, has set social media ablaze, placing the duo at the centre of a cultural crossover few saw coming.
The couple reportedly made things official in June during Paris Fashion Week, just days before Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce announced their own engagement. Since then, French Montana and Mahra have been spotted arm-in-arm at mosques, luxury restaurants across Dubai and Morocco, and even at Paris’s iconic Pont des Arts. Their string of high-profile outings fueled speculation that has now crystallised into a confirmed royal-rap union.
Will Taylor Swift’s engagement ring ignite 2025 bridal trends?
Daughter of UAE Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Greek socialite Zoe Grigorakos, Sheikha Mahra is no stranger to the spotlight. Known for her philanthropy, love of horses, and elegant public persona, Mahra has cultivated an image of modern royalty bridging East and West. Educated in London with a degree in International Relations, she is known for balancing tradition with a cosmopolitan lifestyle.
A very public divorce
The engagement comes on the heels of Mahra’s dramatic split from Emirati businessman Sheikh Mana. Their divorce became public in July 2024 when Mahra took to Instagram with a viral declaration: “Dear Husband, as you are occupied with other companions, I hereby declare our divorce. I divorce you, I divorce you, I divorce you. Take care. Your ex-wife.” The pair share a daughter.
Last year she also announced the launch of her new perfume “Divorce” under her Mahra M1 brand, inspired by her highly publicised split. Teasing the fragrance on Instagram, she revealed a sleek black bottle etched with the word “Divorce,” echoing her recent personal chapter. A dramatic teaser video featured shattered glass, black petals, and a panther, symbolising strength and reinvention. The launch followed her viral Instagram post, making the fragrance both a personal statement and a bold brand move.
French Montana, meanwhile, brings his own star power and history. The rapper was previously married to entrepreneur Nadeen Kharbouch, with whom he has a 16-year-old son. Now, with one foot in hip-hop and the other in Middle Eastern royalty, the French Montana–Sheikha Mahra pairing may just become 2025’s most fascinating celebrity love story.
