Fawad Khan’s Bollywood comeback in trouble

WEB DESK: After the Pahalgam incident in Indian-occupied Kashmir, Fawad Khan’s Bollywood comeback film Abir Gulal’s release is uncertain.

The attack on Tuesday killed 26 people, mostly tourists. The incident triggered backlash in India, with rising anger against Pakistani artists.

Fawad Khan stars alongside Indian actress Vaani Kapoor in the film. The teaser dropped on April 1. But following the incident, the film is facing calls for boycott on Indian social media platforms.

The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has announced a blanket ban on all Pakistani artistes.

It has also said in a statement that it will take all necessary steps to ensure that the upcoming film, Abir Gulaal, which features Fawad Khan in the lead alongside Vaani Kapoor, is not released in India.

Hardline groups in India object to Fawad’s casting. Ashoke Pandit, President of the Indian Film and Television Directors’ Association, called the film a “national security issue.”

He said working with Pakistani artists is “unacceptable” while their country is “hostile towards India.” Pandit also questioned the participation of Pakistani artists in cricket and global shows.

BN Tiwari, President of the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE), warned that the film will not be allowed to release in India. He threatened strict action if it does.

Fawad Khan was making his return to Bollywood after a long break with Abir Gulal. But now, that comeback appears to be in jeopardy.

Fawad Khan has expressed deep grief over the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed at least 26 lives, most of them tourists.

In a post on Instagram, the Pakistani actor said he was “deeply saddened to hear the news of the heinous attack in Pahalgam,” adding that his “thoughts and prayers are with the victims of this horrifying incident.”

He also offered solidarity with the grieving families and prayed for their strength in this difficult time.
