US singer-songwriter Jackson Browne has announced the death of his son, Ethan Browne, who was 52.
Ethan was found unresponsive at his home on Tuesday morning, according to a statement shared by the musician on Facebook on Wednesday.
“It is with deep sorrow that we share that on the morning of November 25, 2025, Ethan Browne, the son of Jackson Browne and Phyllis Major, was found unresponsive in his home and has passed away,” the statement read. The family requested privacy and said no further details were available at this time.
Ethan was born in 1973 to Jackson Browne and actress Phyllis Major, whom the singer married in 1975. The marriage ended shortly after when Major died by suicide in 1976 at the age of 30.
In a 2021 interview, Browne said his son became his central priority following Major’s death. “I only had two things that I hoped I could fit together: being a songwriter and a father,” he said.
Ethan later worked as an actor and model. As an infant, he appeared alongside his father on a 1974 cover of Rolling Stone, when he was just six months old.
No cause of death has been publicly disclosed.
