Triple the chaos, double the laughs: ‘Freakier Friday’ releases August 9

Freakier Friday Release

LOS ANGELES: Body-swapping mayhem returns with Freakier Friday, Disney’s bold sequel to the 2003 cult hit, Freaky Friday, set to release in theatres on Friday, August 9.

Reuniting Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan more than two decades after their beloved mother-daughter switcheroo, the new film raises the stakes with a multi-generational twist: this time, Curtis’ character Tess swaps bodies with her soon-to-be British step-granddaughter Lily (played by Sophia Hammons), while Lohan’s Anna switches with her own daughter.

“We really worked hard to build quirks, behaviors, and words that made it clear who was who,” Curtis said of the intricate character switches. She even resorted to hats with character names during script readings to help the cast stay on track.

The original Freaky Friday became a touchstone for a generation of American millennials. Now, Freakier Friday explores the emotional and comedic complications of a blended family, with new dynamics, deeper themes, and even more magical confusion.

“Where the first one was chaotic with one body swap, this one is absolute madness,” said Curtis. “But it also goes deeper into what it means to be a family.”

Lohan, now a mother herself, said portraying Anna from a new maternal perspective was both challenging and meaningful. “It was refreshing to show Anna as someone trying her best — not just yelling at her mom, but navigating motherhood herself.”

Lohan credited Curtis with helping her balance on-set responsibilities with real-life motherhood. “It was special to work with her again, this time as moms. She guided me both on and off camera.”

With double the swaps, emotional growth, and a dash of Disney magic, Freakier Friday promises heart, hilarity, and a reminder that understanding one another sometimes takes walking a mile in someone else’s shoes or body.
