Woh Ziddi Si: A powerful exploration of broken homes and remarriage

One of the new drama serials on Hum TV, “Woh Ziddi Si,” is quickly gaining popularity for its focus on pressing societal issues that resonate with many households. The show addresses the painful topics often associated with broken homes—whether from parental separation or divorce—highlighting the psychological challenges faced by children in these situations. This underscores why many parents endure hardship and abuse for the sake of their children.

The drama sheds light on a significant social phenomenon: parents who view remarriage as a taboo due to concerns for their children, while children often perceive their parents’ sacrifices as an entitlement. In our society, there remains a stigma surrounding second marriages after divorce or the passing of a spouse. Notable figures like Bushra Ansari faced public scrutiny for their second marriages after enduring difficult relationships for their children’s sake. Similarly, Jawaria Abbasi and Samina Ahmed encountered backlash. However, it is essential to recognize that companionship is vital at any age, and a person has the right to seek a partner as endorsed by religion.

In “Woh Ziddi Si,” Imran Abbas portrays a father to a young daughter named Rida. Their circumstances lead them to consider remarriage with Mehreen (Shahzal Shaukat), resulting in Rida’s strong opposition. This narrative mirrors many households where a single parent strives to provide emotional support, which can sometimes lead to the child developing a sense of entitlement and resistance. Rida challenges Mehreen at every turn, testing her patience and resilience. As the plot unfolds, audiences can expect a rollercoaster of dramatic situations and events.

While the drama unfolds, some viewers have expressed dissatisfaction with Aina Asif’s portrayal of Rida, suggesting it deviates from her previous roles and lacks the intensity required for the character. While such criticisms are valid, Aina Asif is striving to fulfill her role convincingly.

In addition to the lead actors, Waseem Abbas, Asif Daniyal, Afzal, Farah Sadia, Ghazala Butt, and Mahnoor contribute significantly to the story. Abbas Ashraf Awan, the brother of beloved actor Imran Ashraf Awan, also appears. Mahnoor Malik is familiar to audiences from her roles in “Sultanate” and “Meesni,” while Daniyal Afzal is known for performances in dramas like “Fitna,” “Meri Betiyan,” “Ahl-e-Wafa,” and “Chand Ki Paryan.”

Directed by Nadeem Siddiqui and written by Al-Muntaha Jilani, “Woh Ziddi Si” is produced by Momina Duraid Productions. The drama airs every Friday and Sunday at 9 pm.
