It is day four of the holy month of Ramadan, and it’s about time to add some individuality to your iftaari. Of course those deep fried, acidity inducing pakoras and samosas can not be replaced but same items can get a tad bit repetitive.
So this Ramadan give tortillas wraps a shot.
Internationally known for a quick fix which is also nutritious (depending how you make them), tortillas are hugely popular and originate from Mexico. They usually combine a type of protein (usually beef), vegetables, a sauce like sour cream and served inside a flour tortilla which acts as the carb.
Fresh fillings are the best but even if they are made in batches to save time, the final product would still turn out great.
Tortillas are now easily available in stores, and local options also make sure that there are no holes in pocket. They can be heated on the pan or tawa or can be baked.
Here are three way tortilla wraps for your spread
- Chicken fajita tortillas wrap:
- To make tortillas with a chicken fajita filling, make a fajita spice according to your taste. Take corn flour, chili powder, salt, ground paprika, sugar, onion powder, garlic powder, cayenne pepper and ground cumin.
- Then take chicken breasts, apply the spices on them and sear the chicken in an iron pan with some olive oil or butter for seven to eight minutes. Let them rest before slicing them.
- Sauté onions and bell peppers in the same pan to have a hefty filling ready.
- Take the tortilla and slice it from only one end so your have four quadrants.
- Fill them with the filling, add more vegetables and generous amount of cheese and fold it so it becomes a whole quarter.
- Heat it in the pan so the tortilla changes colour.
- Serve with sour cream.
2. Pizza tortilla:
- Making pizza dough can be tedious, so tortilla can be a good alternative. To make a pizza tortilla take pizza sauce (store brought or can be made from scratch), grilled chicken, bell peppers and cheese.
- Put the four ingredients in the four quarters and fold into one. Toast lightly in the pan until the cheese melts and the tortilla gets crispy.
- Serve hot with marinara.
3. A sweet tortilla?
- Yes tortillas are not just savoury rather they can be sweet too, after all we all have crepes or sweet parathas.
- Add some peanut butter, chocolate shavings, and a choice of fruit – strawberry is a good option, and toast it just for a bit to give it some crispiness.
- Serve with whipped cream.
