Bushra Bibi protest cases

ISLAMABAD: A woman police officer was transferred from Adiala Jail to Central Jail Lahore following complaints from former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s wife Bushra Bibi about receiving stale food, the Hum Investigation Team (HIT) has learnt.

As per evidence available with the HIT, Bushra Bibi expressed issues regarding the quality of her meals to the woman officer.

The former First Lady cited the quality of prison food as exacerbating her deteriorating health. Bushra Bibi is currently incarcerated in Adiala jail.

Prison authorities confirmed that the woman officer was removed. They assured that routine appointment and quality check on prison meals were “in place”.

The prison officials were quick to state that no prisoner, including Bushra Bibi, was provided with stale or low quality meals. The officials said that all “necessary” facilities were available to the former First Lady.

Bushra Bibi was incarcerated on February 4 this year on charges of violating Sharia by marrying PTI founder Imran Khan before the completion of her iddat period following her divorce from previous husband Khawar Maneka. Bibi and Khan were sentenced to seven years in prison. The court also fined them Rs500,000.

The issue arose following allegations of Bushra and Khan’s marriage having taken place before her legally-binding waiting period post-divorce (iddat) was completed.

Despite Khan’s and Bushra’s insistence that their marriage took place after the proscribed waiting period had ended, the court ruled against them based on “testimonies and evidence” presented to the court.
