2027 cricket World Cup hosts SA, ZIM, NAM to feature T20I tri-series this month

WEB DESK: South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia will feature a landmark T20 Tri-Series tournament, kicking off in the capital of Namibia, Windhoek, the city that will also co-host the 2027 cricket World Cup.

The Tri-Series between South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia will begin on August 28 at the FNB Namibia Cricket Ground in Namibia.

A total of seven matches will be played in the upcoming T20I tri-series featuring the three African countries. The Tri-series offers an early taste for the highly awaited T20 World Cup, which will mark the return of the tournament to the African continent after 24 years.

The three countries will also jointly host the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) administered T20 World Cup, expected to take place from October 4 to November 21 next year.  

For Africans’, this highly anticipated, globally watched tournament is not little than a blessing. “This tournament marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for African cricket”, Tavengwa Mukuhlani, Africa Cricket Association chairman, said.

“By bringing Zimbabwe, South Africa and Namibia together in regular, competitive international cricket, we are laying the foundation for something much bigger for our continent”, the chairman said, as cited by the ICC on its official website.

He added, “Our vision is to launch the Africa Cup in 2027 and gradually build it into African cricket’s flagship international tournament.”
